Aston Villa are reportedly showing interest in an established Premier League winger as Unai Emery looks to strengthen his squad ahead of next season’s Champions League campaign.
It has been a difficult week for Villa following the departure of influential midfielder Youri Tielemans, who is set to join Manchester United after his release clause was activated.
Tielemans played a pivotal role under Emery, and replacing his influence in midfield will be a major challenge. Villa have already moved quickly by hijacking Newcastle United’s pursuit of Johan Manzambi, who is now expected to arrive at Villa Park, while another midfield addition, potentially João Gomes, could also be on the agenda. However, attacking reinforcements remain another key priority.
Aston Villa interested in Crysencio Summerville
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Aston Villa are among the clubs interested in signing West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville, although they may have to act quickly.
The report states that AS Roma have already submitted a bid worth €45 million (£38.2m) for the Dutch winger, with negotiations between the two clubs currently ongoing. Roma’s owners, the Friedkin family, are said to be actively overseeing the club’s transfer business as they push to complete new signings.
Villa are believed to be monitoring the situation closely and could yet make their own move for the 24-year-old.
Summerville is currently on holiday after representing his country at the World Cup, remaining in Miami following the tournament. He is expected to return this week and discuss his future with his representatives, with an exit from West Ham appearing increasingly likely following the club’s relegation.
Summerville praised as a “dangerous” attacker
Former West Ham coach Kevin Nolan described Summerville as “incredible” towards the end of last season, while his former manager Alfons Groenendijk has also praised the winger’s qualities.
“He already had something special at ADO,” Groenendijk said.
“That kid has a cheeky streak in his game. He has courage and believes in his own ability. He’s exciting to watch. At West Ham, he was given the freedom to switch wings during matches, which made him even more unpredictable and dangerous.”
Still only 24, Summerville has recorded 10 goals and eight assists in 84 Premier League appearances, having featured for both Leeds United and West Ham United. Despite spending much of his top-flight career with teams battling near the bottom of the table, he remains highly regarded for his pace, direct running and ability to unsettle defenders, making him an intriguing option as Villa continue shaping their squad for another campaign in Europe.
