Aston Villa are continuing to assess goalkeeper options this summer as uncertainty remains over the future of Emiliano Martinez.

The club have identified Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes as a potential replacement should their current No.1 leave Villa Park in the coming months.

Restes, 21, is regarded as one of the brightest young goalkeeping talents in France and is believed to be valued at around £20million.

Villa are understood to have already opened discussions with the goalkeeper’s representatives regarding a possible move, although any concrete progress is expected to depend on Martinez’s situation, which may not become clearer until after the World Cup.

Manager Unai Emery would prefer to keep hold of the Argentina international, but Villa are thought to be willing to consider offers for the 34-year-old if their valuation is met.

Juventus remain the strongest contenders for Martinez’s signature at present, although reports suggest the Italian side have yet to meet Villa’s asking price, believed to be in the region of £15million.

As a result, Villa have continued monitoring alternative options, with Parma goalkeeper and Japan international Zion Suzuki also featuring prominently on their shortlist.

Elsewhere, reports have linked Villa with interest in Feyenoord winger Anis Hadj Moussa. The Algeria international is also attracting attention from Newcastle United.

Adding speed and quality in wide positions remains a priority for Emery, who is believed to be targeting two new wide attackers this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain prospect Ibrahim Mbaye has long been admired by Villa’s recruitment team, while Newcastle’s Harvey Barnes and West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen have also been monitored as potential additions.
