Aston Villa are reportedly stepping up their efforts to sign Galatasaray midfielder Gabriel Sara ahead of the summer transfer window, with Unai Emery’s side showing strong interest in bringing the Brazilian back to English football.
The 26-year-old has been closely monitored by Aston Villa in recent months, with club representatives reportedly watching him live earlier this year.
Previous reports from Turkey claimed Villa had already made initial contact regarding a potential transfer and suggested a deal could require a fee in the region of €30 million.
Now, further reports indicate Aston Villa have made more concrete advances in pursuit of the midfielder following their Europa League triumph and qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Aston Villa Submit Serious Offer
According to Turkish outlet Sporx, Aston Villa are “serious” about signing Gabriel Sara and have submitted an official offer as they look to strengthen Emery’s midfield options.
Journalist Evren Göz also confirmed that Villa are actively pushing for the move.
“There is an offer from Aston Villa for Gabriel Sara,” he said. “They are serious about this.”
The exact nature of the proposal remains unclear, with uncertainty over whether the offer was directed at Galatasaray, the player himself, or both parties.
There has also been speculation that Galatasaray could attempt to negotiate a player exchange involving Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans.
“Galatasaray might have expectations for Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa,” Göz explained.
“He is a player Galatasaray have wanted for years. However, the Belgian player has previously said he does not want to play in Türkiye. We will see whether circumstances change.”
As a result, Galatasaray may ultimately need to settle for a cash-only deal or explore alternative player options as part of negotiations.
Premier League Return Expected for Sara
Gabriel Sara joined Galatasaray from Norwich City in 2024 and initially impressed during his first season in Turkish football.
However, the arrival of Ilkay Gundogan reportedly affected his role during the 2025/26 campaign, leading to a less consistent season overall.
Despite fluctuating involvement, the Brazilian still contributed six goals and five assists in 42 appearances across all competitions while playing just under 3,000 minutes.
His performances have continued to attract Premier League interest, with Aston Villa currently considered among the leading contenders for his signature.
The midfielder’s contract with Galatasaray runs until 2029, while Transfermarkt currently values him at around €27 million.
Villa Looking to Strengthen Midfield Depth
Aston Villa’s interest in Sara appears understandable given the uncertainty surrounding several midfield positions within Emery’s squad.
John McGinn is now entering his thirties, while Ross Barkley’s future remains unclear following recurring injury problems.
Meanwhile, Boubacar Kamara is currently recovering from another serious knee injury, increasing Villa’s need for additional midfield depth ahead of another demanding campaign involving Champions League football.
Sara is therefore viewed as a strong option capable of adding technical quality, creativity and versatility to Emery’s midfield setup.
Although Aston Villa may still face competition from other Premier League clubs, recent reports suggest they are currently leading the race to sign the Brazilian international ahead of the summer transfer window.
