Aston Villa Eye £60m Striker as Emery Searches for Next Jhon Duran

Unai Emery further strengthened his reputation as one of Europe’s most successful managers after guiding Aston Villa to Europa League glory with a memorable 3-0 victory over Freiburg in Istanbul.

The triumph marked Emery’s fifth Europa League title as a manager and continued Aston Villa’s remarkable rise under the Spaniard.

Villa now return focus to Premier League action against Manchester City on the final day of the season, although qualification for next season’s Champions League has already been secured.

With European football at the highest level returning to Villa Park, Emery is expected to oversee another ambitious summer transfer window as the club looks to continue progressing.

Following the Europa League success, the Villa manager also openly discussed his ambitions of eventually turning Aston Villa into genuine Premier League title challengers.

Aston Villa Interested in William Osula

According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are now interested in signing Newcastle United striker William Osula as Emery looks to strengthen his attacking options.

The report claims Villa admire the Danish forward, although Newcastle are reluctant to part ways with the 21-year-old because he is viewed as part of Eddie Howe’s long-term plans at St James’ Park.

Despite that, Aston Villa are believed to remain interested in testing Newcastle’s resolve over a player reportedly valued at around £60 million.

Villa may also face uncertainty surrounding Morgan Rogers this summer, while Ollie Watkins is entering the later stages of his career, increasing the need for additional attacking depth.

Reports have also linked Villa with Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders as Emery prepares for another demanding season.

Osula Compared to Former Villa Forward Jhon Duran

Osula’s playing style has already drawn comparisons with former Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran, who became a hugely effective impact player during his time at Villa Park.

Although Duran only started seven Premier League matches across three seasons with Villa, he still scored 12 league goals and regularly changed games from the bench with his physicality and direct style.

Morgan Rogers previously described Duran as a player capable of coming into matches and immediately “causing havoc” against tired defenders.

Osula appears to possess similar qualities. Former Derby County defender Curtis Davies has even described the Newcastle striker as a “poor man’s Haaland” because of his powerful running and ability to score spectacular goals.

Despite limited opportunities, Osula has impressed this season with seven goals from just 745 Premier League minutes.

One of his standout moments came in March when he scored a brilliant solo goal to help Newcastle secure a 2-1 victory over Manchester United.

Emery Facing Difficult Negotiations

Aston Villa are likely to face a major challenge convincing Osula to leave Newcastle just as he begins establishing himself within Howe’s first-team plans.

However, Villa’s recent Europa League triumph, combined with Emery’s growing ambitions for the club, could make the move increasingly attractive.

The opportunity to play Champions League football and become an important attacking figure under Emery may appeal strongly to the Danish striker.

Having seen the impact Jhon Duran made during his short time at Villa Park, Osula could potentially view Aston Villa as the ideal environment to continue his development and become a key player in one of the Premier League’s fastest-rising teams.
