Aston Villa have gained clarity on Jadon Sancho’s position ahead of the summer, including what he is prepared to accept regarding his future.

Sancho’s loan spell at Villa Park is due to finish at the end of the season, with Unai Emery’s side still undecided on whether to push for a permanent move from Manchester United.

Reports indicate the winger is interested in rejoining Borussia Dortmund this summer and would consider a reduction in wages to facilitate the move, particularly if he becomes a free agent. According to The Athletic, Sancho is open to a third stint with the German club, where he has already made 158 appearances across two spells, most recently returning during the latter part of the 2023/24 campaign.

His current deal at Old Trafford expires this summer. Although United hold an option to extend it by an additional year, signs suggest his five-year time at the club may be nearing its end.

It is still unclear whether Villa will attempt to secure Sancho on a permanent basis, potentially on a free transfer.

The report adds that Villa’s transfer budget will depend heavily on their final Premier League standing and qualification for European competition.

Emery recently addressed the situation, acknowledging that Sancho would require a new contract and leaving the door open for him to stay. He noted that if the player performs at a high level, Villa would be interested, though other clubs are also likely to enter the race.

Dortmund had previously been linked with Sancho before his move to Villa. Under Niko Kovač, the Bundesliga side have adopted a 3-4-2-1 system this season, utilising two attacking midfielders behind a central striker.
