Douglas Luiz looks set to make a return to former club Aston Villa on loan, with the move potentially becoming permanent, bringing his current loan spell from Juventus at Nottingham Forest to an early end.
Douglas Luiz set for Villa reunion after Juventus exit
Reports from several outlets in Italy and the UK, including The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Fabrizio Romano and The Telegraph, suggest the Brazilian midfielder is close to rejoining Unai Emery’s side at least until the end of the 2025–26 campaign.
Discussions between all parties are said to be ongoing, but Luiz is now expected to cancel his loan agreement with Nottingham Forest in order to complete a switch back to Villa Park. The deal is believed to include an option to buy.
Luiz initially left Aston Villa for Juventus in the summer of 2024 in a deal worth around €50m. However, the midfielder found it difficult to establish himself in Serie A, completing a full 90 minutes on just two occasions during his time in Italy.
He was subsequently allowed to depart Turin in August, joining Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan with an option to buy for approximately €30m, which would have become mandatory after a set number of appearances — a clause that now looks unlikely to be met.
The 27-year-old has featured eight times in the Premier League this season, alongside four Europa League appearances, plus one outing each in the FA Cup and EFL Cup.
