Aston Villa Join Tottenham in Pursuit of Omar Marmoush

Aston Villa are reportedly ready to compete with Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush. Unai Emery’s side have entered the race as they look to strengthen their attacking options during the current transfer window.

According to Dean Jones speaking to TEAMtalk, both Aston Villa and Tottenham are interested in bringing Marmoush to their respective clubs. Spurs have already made an initial enquiry, while Villa have recently emerged as serious contenders for the Egyptian international’s signature.

Omar Marmoush’s Situation at Manchester City

Marmoush earned widespread praise for his performances at Eintracht Frankfurt, which convinced Manchester City to invest £59 million in his services at the beginning of 2025. The 26-year-old initially featured regularly after his arrival and appeared to be settling well into Pep Guardiola’s system.

However, his involvement has significantly reduced in recent months. Marmoush has started just two Premier League matches and one Champions League game this season, accumulating fewer than 400 minutes of senior action overall. This lack of game time has reportedly left the attacker frustrated, prompting rival clubs to monitor his situation closely.

While Marmoush is currently representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, both Aston Villa and Tottenham remain keen on securing his services.

Discussing the player’s future, Jones said: “There are rumours coming out of Egypt suggesting Aston Villa are pushing for Marmoush. It’s an intriguing possibility. Villa have tried to revive players like Rashford, Sancho and Elliott in the Premier League, so it’s easy to see why they might view Marmoush as the next project.

“His minutes at Manchester City haven’t matched expectations, and we’ve reported that Villa are searching for another attacking option to help sustain their recent strong form.

“However, we’ve also been told that City are reluctant to part ways with Marmoush. That stance came up during Tottenham’s enquiries, so it’s hard to imagine they would be eager to let him join Villa, who pose an even greater challenge to them this season.”

Villa and Spurs Eye Attacking Reinforcements

Aston Villa have enjoyed an outstanding campaign and currently sit second in the Premier League, firmly in the title conversation. To maintain momentum, Emery is keen to add more quality in the final third, and Marmoush’s versatility and goal threat make him an appealing target.

Tottenham are also eager to bolster their attacking depth following an underwhelming first half of the season. Thomas Frank is seeking more competition up front, especially with Randal Kolo Muani failing to make the desired impact and Dominic Solanke struggling with injuries.

Although Spurs have already sounded out Manchester City over Marmoush’s availability, the reigning champions have no plans to allow him to leave midway through the season. Given City’s reluctance to strengthen direct rivals, a move to Aston Villa appears even less likely, with Emery’s side emerging as a genuine title threat.
