Unai Emery has shared his thoughts on Aston Villa’s upcoming meeting with Wolves.
Despite Wolves sitting bottom in 20th place, Emery noted positive signs in their recent 2–0 defeat to Crystal Palace and insists he refuses to label Villa as favourites.
“New coach, he did an excellent job with Luton Town, and he knows us well. He earned this chance with Wolves, and my respect for him is huge. Our matches with Wolves in the Premier League have always been difficult. Even when we won last year, and two years ago, it was tough — they always perform strongly here.
“It might be a small derby, but every match is challenging. Wolves, in their situation, will be desperate to compete and pick up points. For us, it’s about maintaining consistency and keeping our standards high.
“Recently the team has been responding well, and the players are fully focused across all competitions. Villa Park is our fortress with our fans, and hopefully on Sunday we can stay at the level we’ve shown lately.
“I really don’t feel like favourites — not in the Premier League.
“We can analyse their different moments, but I want to remind everyone that when they faced Tottenham away, they deserved to win and only drew after conceding late. That match shows how tough this league is. Wolves may be bottom, but with a new coach they’ll be motivated, eager, and determined to compete on Sunday. He knows us and will use everything he can to get points here.
“After showing that respect, it’s about how we respond — playing with our identity and our strong form. But to maintain that level, we must be extremely demanding.”
