Monchi reveals which player Aston Villa were told was untouchable during club visit

Latest Aston Villa headlines from BirminghamLive detail what former football operations president Monchi shared about a player linked with the club.

Monchi has disclosed that Deportivo La Coruña officials made it clear their young star Yeremay Hernández was not for sale during a visit to Aston Villa earlier this summer.

Hernández, regarded as one of Spain’s brightest talents, has drawn interest from several Premier League sides over the past year, including Newcastle United, Arsenal, and Nottingham Forest.

Despite Villa’s reported admiration, Monchi confirmed that Deportivo shut down any hopes of a deal as the club’s representatives toured training centres across Europe while preparing to upgrade their own facilities in Spain.

Monchi explained: “Before the transfer window opened, Dépor’s staff visited the Aston Villa training complex, and we spoke about Yeremay. They were clear from the start—he wasn’t leaving.

“They told me they want him to be the symbol of Deportivo when they return to La Liga.”

Currently competing in Spain’s second tier, Deportivo see Hernández as essential to their promotion ambitions.

The 22-year-old winger, who recently signed a contract extension featuring a higher release clause, has stayed calm amid speculation.

Asked about his future after facing Almería, he said: “Very calm. My agent and the club handle that. I’ve always said I’ll go hand in hand with Dépor.

“This year has been full of emotions, but I remain relaxed—that’s why I have an agent.”

Hernández has started the season strongly, scoring three goals in eight matches, and his performances are expected to draw even more attention from top clubs.
