Jacob Ramsey dealt injury setback after £39m Newcastle switch from Aston Villa

Former Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey faces time out with injury following his move to Newcastle United.

The midfielder’s start on Tyneside has been disrupted after picking up an ankle problem. The 24-year-old was hurt in Newcastle’s goalless draw at Leeds United before the September international break.

Because of the knock, Ramsey is expected to sit out seven upcoming fixtures, including Newcastle’s Champions League opener against Barcelona at St. James’ Park.

Ramsey joined the Magpies in a £39m deal last month, with a further £5m possible in bonuses.

After featuring off the bench in the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool, he earned his first start under Eddie Howe but was withdrawn at half-time due to the injury.

“Jacob Ramsey is the only fresh injury issue,” Howe said before the Wolves clash.

“He won’t be involved after the challenge at Leeds. His ankle swelled during the break and he couldn’t continue.

“Sadly, I don’t expect him back until after the next international break, which is a big setback for us.”
