Aston Villa could look to turn Jadon Sancho’s loan from Manchester United into a permanent transfer if he impresses once club football resumes after the international break.
On Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior reporter Pete O’Rourke revealed that sources say the 25-year-old has no future under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford. With only a year left on his United contract, several clubs are watching his progress at Villa Park with a long-term deal in mind.
Football Insider reported on 5 August that United plan to trigger an extension clause in Sancho’s contract, giving them an extra year. Villa’s financial constraints meant his switch was arranged as a loan only, but discussions have already taken place about his future beyond this season.
If he shines in Unai Emery’s side before the January window, Villa may look to secure his services permanently.
Man United pleased with Sancho loan as Villa weigh future bid
Ex-United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider the club are “delighted” with the deal, having initially feared offloading Sancho’s wages would be difficult. Villa are understood to be paying around 80 percent of his salary, easing the pressure on Amorim’s squad.
O’Rourke explained that while United benefit from the financial relief, they are still planning to move him on permanently, with a return seen as unlikely.
“With Sancho, it really depends on how he performs at Villa,” he told Football Insider.
“He did well on loan at Borussia Dortmund two years ago, but his stint at Chelsea didn’t work and they opted against a permanent deal. Villa believe he can thrive and will then consider keeping him. For him, the key is playing regular football. His talent is clear, and he’ll hope to rediscover his best form.
“It also helps United as it puts him in the shop window and could boost his value ahead of next summer.”
Martinez decides against exit amid Saudi links
Meanwhile, speculation over Emiliano Martinez’s future continues. Football Insider revealed on 5 September that the Argentine keeper is now ready to remain at Aston Villa, rejecting interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
Martinez was once keen on a move to Old Trafford, but after no bid came forward, he has decided to stay. This follows a 24 August report stating he had no immediate plans to depart despite expectations of an exit last season.
