Aston Villa may reconsider transfer decision after unexpected twist

Latest Aston Villa transfer news as reports from Poland suggest Oliwier Zych’s loan move could be cut short

Aston Villa goalkeeper Oliwier Zych might return to the Midlands only weeks after joining a club in his homeland on loan, with suggestions his temporary spell is under threat due to limited involvement.

The 19-year-old, who previously spent time with Puszcza Niepołomice in Poland’s top division, lifted the FA Youth Cup with Villa’s under-18s in 2021 and impressed last season in the EFL Trophy as part of the under-21 squad that progressed into the knockout rounds.

Zych penned a new contract at Villa on Christmas Eve before being sent to Raków Częstochowa this summer, where it was expected he would benefit from regular minutes while senior keepers Emiliano Martínez and Marco Bizot hold down the first-team roles at Villa Park.

Instead, Zych has had to settle for a back-up role, watching on as 20-year-old Kacper Trelowski—who was tipped to depart during the window but stayed put—kept his starting position between the posts.

So far, Zych has been named on the bench for all nine Raków fixtures across the league and Conference League qualifying ties. Now, Polish outlet Meczyki claim Villa are preparing to recall him, with the youngster already due back at Bodymoor Heath for an assessment. Whether he returns to Raków afterwards remains in doubt.
