Latest Aston Villa transfer rumours as Harvey Elliott is tipped as a realistic summer option for Unai Emery’s squad.
Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has slipped down the pecking order at Anfield following Arne Slot’s wave of new signings, raising the possibility of a fresh start elsewhere. Aston Villa have now been suggested as the club who could reignite the 22-year-old’s career.
Elliott shone for England’s under-21s as they defended their European Championship crown earlier this summer, but at club level his future remains uncertain.
Ex-Liverpool and Birmingham winger Jermaine Pennant believes the youngster should leave Merseyside before the September 1 deadline, pointing to Villa as a logical destination.
“I don’t think Harvey can just stay and fight it out because we still don’t know his best role,” Pennant told.
“Is he an 8, a 10, or a wide man on either side? He hasn’t been nailed down to one position. He’s a brilliant utility option though, and there’s definitely a team that can use him properly. He’s contributed every year and has real quality.
“With James Maddison out injured at Spurs, for instance, Harvey would be a big asset. He was vital for England U21s at the Euros and plenty of Premier League sides would benefit. Villa certainly would, and Tottenham as well.”
Reports in Germany claim RB Leipzig have already agreed personal terms with Elliott, but talks with Liverpool over a transfer fee are ongoing.
If Villa were to enter the race late on, the Daily Mail suggests a £40m fee could be enough to tempt Liverpool. The sale of homegrown midfielder Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle over the weekend may provide sporting director Monchi with some room to manoeuvre, though financial fair play limits still need to be monitored.
Villa’s summer business has so far seen striker Evann Guessand and goalkeeper Marco Bizot arrive, with Leon Bailey leaving on loan to Bayer Leverkusen.
Elliott, comfortable as an attacking midfielder or from the right wing, would give Emery added creativity. The youngster has already featured 92 times in the Premier League for Liverpool, scoring five goals and winning both the league title and two League Cups.
