Aston Villa and Bournemouth eye Amine Adli, but winger may not hit top form until February

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in securing Bayer Leverkusen forward Amine Adli before the transfer window closes.

The Moroccan international joined Leverkusen from France in 2021, but last season his Bundesliga numbers dipped — scoring just twice and assisting once in 20 appearances.

This report features exclusive insight from injury specialist Dr Rajpal Brar, a physical therapist and sports scientist.

Villa to review Adli’s past fibular fracture
With Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio departing at the end of their loan stints, Villa are short of two wide players, which explains their interest.

Caught Offside claimed on 1 August that Leverkusen value Adli at £26million, while Bournemouth are also said to be pursuing him.

However, Dr Brar believes Villa will first assess the fibular fracture that sidelined Adli for 21 games last season. The 25-year-old eventually returned and featured consistently during the run-in.

Adli’s Leverkusen record
Appearances: 142
Goals: 23
Assists: 24

“Villa may want to check the healing process of his fracture,” Dr Brar explained. “But given that he played regularly after returning, I don’t expect major concerns. His long absence last season was notable, though he should be back at full sharpness after February, especially following a full pre-season.”

Potential impact at Villa Park
Adli’s versatility, creativity and quick feet could offer Villa a fresh attacking edge. Comfortable as a winger, No.10 or second striker, he thrives at breaking down defences with his dribbling and direct running.

His 10 goal involvements in Leverkusen’s 2023/24 title-winning campaign highlight his ability to perform under pressure. With his pace, tactical intelligence and relentless pressing suiting Unai Emery’s intense style, the Moroccan could be a smart, cost-effective addition for both domestic and European campaigns.
