Aston Villa ‘open to bargain Marco Asensio deal after loan success’

Marco Asensio made a strong impact during his loan stint at Aston Villa.

The Spanish attacker joined Unai Emery’s squad in January and contributed eight goals and one assist across 21 appearances. Despite his success, the loan from Paris Saint-Germain did not include a purchase option, leaving his future at Villa Park uncertain ahead of the new campaign.

Aston Villa hesitate over Asensio’s price tag

Reports suggest Villa might explore other targets rather than committing to a permanent Asensio move.

Veteran commentator Ian Darke thinks the cost of signing the 29-year-old is a key reason for Villa’s reluctance.

Speaking to 1874Lions, Darke said: “You look at what players deliver over time. He had a brilliant run with seven goals in seven matches during February and March. He’s definitely got quality, and you want players like that in your squad. I’m a bit surprised they’re not pushing to sign him permanently.

“His knack for goals is valuable. At Real Madrid, he struggled for minutes, stuck on the bench, but still popped up with vital goals, even scoring in a Champions League final.

“The issue is the fee. Villa would likely go for it if the price was lower, but they may feel he’s not a guaranteed starter. He divides opinion, but his talent is clear.”

Villa still hopeful on Asensio

Asensio was a shrewd signing by Monchi, and his time at Villa has revived his career. The club could still land him permanently if they can negotiate a reduced price with PSG.

Without Champions League football, their summer ambitions are tougher, but a deal for Asensio remains possible. If not, Villa may look at alternatives like Harvey Elliott to add creativity.
