Aston Villa Target Axel Disasi Told to Leave Chelsea After World Cup Squad Snub

Aston Villa’s summer transfer plans may get a boost as former loanee Axel Disasi has reportedly been told he can leave Chelsea following his exclusion from their Club World Cup squad.

Disasi, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa, is said to be interested in a permanent return. The 27-year-old defender made 10 appearances for Villa, including five Premier League starts, and featured in the Champions League as the club progressed to the quarter-finals.

Chelsea paid over £35 million to sign Disasi from AS Monaco in 2023, but just two years into his stay—and with four years remaining on his contract—his future at Stamford Bridge now appears uncertain. Reports suggest Chelsea are open to offloading several first-team players to free up space and generate funds.

Alongside Disasi, the likes of Joao Felix, Raheem Sterling, and Ben Chilwell have also been told to consider their options elsewhere. All three were out on loan last season—Felix at AC Milan, Sterling at Arsenal, and Chilwell at Crystal Palace—and none are expected to be part of new manager Enzo Maresca’s long-term plans.

Disasi, who also filled in at right-back during his Villa stint, is reportedly eager to rejoin the club. Unai Emery is thought to be open to a deal if an agreement can be reached with Chelsea. Disasi is currently valued at around £22 million by Transfermarkt.
