Aston Villa Academy Graduate Seals Move for ‘Substantial Fee’ After European Spell

Former Aston Villa winger Declan Frith has completed a permanent transfer to League One side Peterborough United, returning to English football after a successful stint abroad. The 23-year-old, who joined Villa from Chelsea in 2021, spent two years at the club before being released in 2023.

Frith made an instant impact at Villa, scoring twice on his U23 debut in a derby win over Birmingham City. Following his release, he signed for Valencia B before moving to Swiss outfit FC Thun, where he played a key role in their promotion campaign, scoring six goals in 30 appearances last season.

His performances in Switzerland’s second tier caught the eye of Peterborough, who acted swiftly to bring him in as they prepare for life without Kwame Poku. Although Poku is leaving on a free transfer, the club will receive compensation due to his age.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony confirmed the move on social media, stating: “New Party. New No 11. Substantial Fee paid. Long Term Deal. Special Highlight Reel to give a glimpse of what is to come. Welcome Declan Frith to the @theposh from @fcthun_official, a Swiss Super League Team!”

Frith joins Peterborough on a three-year contract with an option for a fourth, aiming to make a big impact at London Road as the club reshapes its squad.
