Aston Villa ‘set to bid’ for prolific 20-goal striker previously signed by Monchi

Aston Villa could be looking to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season by targeting a proven goal scorer.

Villa finished 6th in the Premier League last term, just missing out on Champions League qualification due to goal difference. However, they’ve secured a Europa League spot, which gives them a strong platform to build on this summer.

Unai Emery’s impact since arriving at Villa Park in 2022 has been remarkable. He’s transformed the team’s fortunes, turning them into serious contenders in the top flight. The experienced Spaniard has previously managed major clubs including PSG, Arsenal, and Villarreal.

Villa linked with move for Fenerbahce’s Youssef En-Nesyri
According to Turkish outlet Milliyet (via Sport Witness), Aston Villa are reportedly preparing a bid for Fenerbahce striker Youssef En-Nesyri. The Moroccan international, who has 80 caps to his name, is a player Monchi has previously worked with. Despite only joining Fenerbahce last year, the striker is now being linked with a quick exit.

En-Nesyri, 28, netted 30 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions last season, including 20 league goals. Fenerbahce finished second behind Galatasaray, and now face a battle to retain their star forward.

Before his move to Turkey, En-Nesyri enjoyed a successful stint at Sevilla, scoring 73 goals in 196 games. He also had spells at Malaga and Leganes during his time in Spain.

Is En-Nesyri a good fit for Villa?
Villa may view En-Nesyri as a valuable addition to their attacking options. His arrival would increase competition up front, particularly with Ollie Watkins leading the line. He’s a proven goal scorer in Spain and Turkey, showing a natural ability to find the net.

However, he hasn’t played in the Premier League before, which could pose an adjustment period. As with most overseas signings, patience would be needed as he settles into a new environment.

Speaking after signing for Fenerbahce, En-Nesyri said:
“Before joining, I spoke with several players who told me about how big Fenerbahce is and their winning mentality. I’m very happy to be here. If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t have come. I’ll give everything on the pitch.”

He added:
“Many clubs were interested, but joining Fenerbahce was important to me. I spoke with Ali Koc, Jose Mourinho, and Mario Branco. After discussions with my family and agent, I made my decision. This club’s ambition really impressed me.”
