Aston Villa open talks with PSG over £37m forward as they rival Forest and Palace for signature

Villa are back in discussions with Paris Saint-Germain, this time off the pitch, in hopes of landing a major signing ahead of their Premier League rivals.

In April 2025, Villa Park witnessed a memorable night under the lights as Aston Villa hosted PSG in the Champions League quarter-final second leg. Down by two goals early on—both scored by PSG full-backs—it looked like Unai Emery’s side were out of the contest. But the Villans mounted a stunning comeback. Youri Tielemans sparked hope with a goal, John McGinn brought the sides level on the night, and Ezri Konsa fired in a third. With momentum fully on their side, Villa chased the fourth that would have taken them to extra time, but Gianluigi Donnarumma stood firm to deny them. It ended in heartbreak, but Villa’s run had been remarkable.

Now, less than six weeks later, Villa and PSG could be set to meet again—this time across the negotiating table—as Villa pursue a move for a PSG star seeking more game time.

Villa among Premier League sides eyeing PSG’s Lee Kang-in

According to Caught Offside, Aston Villa are among a host of clubs interested in signing South Korean forward Lee Kang-in from PSG, with the deal estimated at around £37 million. Manchester United are reportedly keen as well, along with Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, Atlético Madrid, Napoli, Arsenal, and Newcastle. All eight clubs are believed to have contacted PSG to express interest.

The 24-year-old has turned down a contract extension with the French champions, signaling his desire to leave for more regular first-team football. After joining from Valencia in July 2023, Lee made history as PSG’s first Korean player and had moments of brilliance alongside stars like Kylian Mbappé. However, PSG’s recent tactical evolution has raised doubts about his role moving forward.

Despite making 19 Ligue 1 starts, Lee didn’t feature in any of PSG’s Champions League knockout games—not even as a substitute against Villa or Arsenal. He was notably replaced at halftime by Ousmane Dembélé in the 4–2 win over Manchester City, a turning point in PSG’s European campaign. Dembélé has thrived since, further limiting Lee’s opportunities.

Lee could fill key attacking gaps at Villa

Though sidelined during key matches, Lee’s talent remains clear. As he approaches his peak years, a move away from Paris may provide the platform he needs to truly shine. He might even leave PSG as a Champions League winner.

Able to play across the front line or in attacking midfield, Lee’s versatility would be a valuable asset for Unai Emery. He’s produced six goals and six assists in Ligue 1 this season, despite reduced minutes recently.

Villa are preparing for a big summer, especially with speculation around Ollie Watkins’ future and doubts about funding a permanent deal for Marcus Rashford. A double swoop from PSG could be in the works, with Marco Asensio also being considered for a permanent transfer after his loan spell.
