Aston Villa Eye Summer Swoop for Sporting Star Pedro Gonçalves

Aston Villa are preparing to make a summer move for Sporting CP’s Pedro Gonçalves, with Unai Emery keen to strengthen his attacking options ahead of next season.

Despite the winger’s recent injury struggles — missing five months with a muscle issue — Villa have continued to monitor his progress closely. Now back fit and featuring regularly again, Gonçalves has contributed 11 goals and assists this season, showing signs of regaining form.

At 26, the versatile Portuguese attacker remains a key player for Sporting, capable of playing across the front line and in midfield. Villa view him as a valuable addition as they look to build on their strong campaign under Emery.

Bayer Leverkusen have also shown interest but failed in a previous attempt to land him. Sporting, meanwhile, are reluctant to sell and are already in talks to extend his contract beyond 2027. Those discussions are currently on hold as Gonçalves focuses on helping his team in their title push.

Villa will need to move decisively — convincing both player and club won’t be easy, but the Premier League side believes they can make a compelling case.
