Aston Villa’s Dubai Training Camp: Injury Updates and Key Returns

Aston Villa’s warm-weather training camp in Dubai has been a mix of positive developments and injury concerns. Notably, midfielder Amadou Onana and defender Pau Torres have returned to full training, signaling progress in their recoveries. Onana, previously sidelined due to a foot injury sustained during international duty with Belgium, has been actively participating in drills. Similarly, Torres, who withdrew from the Spain squad because of an injury, is back in action, enhancing Villa’s defensive options.

However, concerns persist regarding forward Ollie Watkins and midfielder Ross Barkley. Watkins, who suffered a knock during the Champions League match against Club Brugge, has been absent from full training sessions, casting doubt on his availability for upcoming fixtures. Barkley, dealing with knee and calf issues, has also been sidelined for nearly seven weeks, and his return date remains uncertain.

The Dubai camp has provided an opportunity for the squad to train in a favorable climate, focusing on building fitness and preparing for crucial upcoming matches, including FA Cup and Champions League quarter-final ties against Preston North End and Paris Saint-Germain. The team has been practicing passing drills and building play from the back under pressure, with Onana and Torres playing key roles in these exercises.

As the international break concludes, Villa’s medical team will continue to assess the fitness of all players to ensure readiness for the demanding schedule ahead.
