Aston Villa and Newcastle United are reportedly competing to sign Semih Kılıçsoy, a 19-year-old forward from Beşiktaş and a four-time Turkish international. Aston Villa had previously made unsuccessful bids for Kılıçsoy, including a €16 million (£13.5 million) offer last summer. With the recent sale of striker Jhon Duran, Villa are now in a stronger financial position to pursue Kılıçsoy, especially after their impressive performance in reaching the quarter-finals of this season’s Champions League.
Kılıçsoy has demonstrated versatility by playing as a central attacking midfielder, winger, and centre forward. In the previous season, he scored 12 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions. Although his goal contributions have decreased this season, with four goals and six assists, he has shown renewed confidence under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Newcastle United are also interested in Kılıçsoy, aiming to strengthen their attacking options. They currently rely on Alexander Isak as their primary striker and are considering alternatives due to Callum Wilson’s injury concerns and expiring contract.
Kılıçsoy’s reported idol is former Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero, which may influence his playing style and aspirations.
As the summer transfer window approaches, both Aston Villa and Newcastle United are expected to intensify their efforts to secure Kılıçsoy’s signature, potentially leading to a bidding war for the young Turkish talent.
