Aston Villa’s transfer activity has hit a few roadblocks as they look to strengthen their squad for the ongoing season.

The club’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malen has proven difficult, with their initial bid of €16 million plus add-ons rejected. A second offer of €18 million plus add-ons was also turned down, as Dortmund holds out for a guaranteed fee exceeding €20 million. Villa remains interested but may need to increase their bid to secure the Dutch international.

In addition, Villa faced disappointment in their attempt to sign Sevilla defender Loïc Badé. A deal worth €23 million plus €3 million in bonuses was agreed upon between the clubs, but negotiations fell apart due to an inability to reach personal terms with the player.

With these setbacks, Villa has now turned their attention to Villarreal’s Juan Foyth. The former Tottenham defender, now 27, has emerged as a key target, and discussions are underway to bring him back to the Premier League. Villa sees Foyth as a versatile defensive option who could bolster their backline.

Meanwhile, the club has also fended off interest in striker Jhon Durán. West Ham made a £40 million bid for the Colombian forward, but Villa rejected the offer, valuing him at closer to £60 million.

Despite these challenges, Villa remains active in the transfer market as they look to make key additions to push forward in both domestic and European competitions.
