Marcus Rashford is “getting his juice back” at Aston Villa after a difficult spell at Manchester United, according to Dwight Yorke.
Since making the loan switch to Villa Park—where a £40m clause could make the move permanent—Rashford has impressed in his first five appearances. Although he is yet to score under Unai Emery, he contributed two assists in Villa’s recent 2-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea, where Marco Asensio netted twice.
Yorke, who famously left Villa for United before winning the treble under Sir Alex Ferguson in 1999, believes Rashford is only going to improve as the season progresses. With Villa fighting on three fronts—the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup—he expects Rashford to play a key role, much to the dismay of his former club.
“He’s finding his confidence again—you can see it in his body language,” Yorke said. “It tells you a million things. When a player is feeling good, it shows in their performances.”
“The boy has always had talent. I’ve defended him from the start. At 27, he should be one of the best players in the Premier League. Villa have got a hell of a player on their hands. With the right nurturing and patience, he will only get better.”
Yorke also suggested that Rashford’s resurgence at Villa is proving that a player can leave a bigger club for a so-called “lesser” one and still thrive.
“Villa will stay consistent for the rest of the season, and Rashford is a big reason why. He’s electrifying,” Yorke added. “I’ve been in football a long time, and I know a real baller when I see one—Rashford is one. Get his mindset right, and he’ll lift the entire team. Right now, he looks like he’s getting his juice back.”
Praising Unai Emery’s influence, Yorke believes Rashford will soon make a statement that won’t sit well at Old Trafford.
“Emery is an exceptional manager and will get the best out of him. The Man United camp won’t be happy with what’s coming in the next few weeks and months,” he said. “Watch him go to work—he’s about to send a message.”
